Bringing More Than 21st Century Skills to Students

Developing Critical Thinking Skills with BSD

Baldi Middle School had a desire to integrate technology education into their curriculum, but they wanted a platform that offered more than a tool that simply helped student learn how to code. Their teachers wanted to provide their students with critical thinking and social-emotional learning skills to help their students succeed in whatever they do in the future.

Our Solution

BSD provided Baldi Middle School the curriculum, platform, and support to deliver hard and soft skills to students that better prepares them for the digital world they live in. “BSD is not just learning how to code, it’s also learning how to think about what you’re learning,” said Jackie Mandel, digital literacy teacher at Baldi. “BSD helps us teach all the things we hope people have these days, including the critical thinking skills, the creativity, and the perseverance to succeed.”

The Results

Baldi Middle School has had significant success using BSD to teach students real coding skills while also providing them with the skills to be better people and navigate their world. Now a partner with BSD for more than three years, Baldi Middle school is continuing to use BSD as a way prepare their students for the world ahead of them. “The skills they learn with BSD will carry with them no matter what they do,” said Mandel. “It really builds on the C.A.R.E. skills–curiosity, adaptability, resilience, and empathy–we need to be humans in this world.”
