Building a Pathway to IGCSE Computer Science

Designing Custom Computer Science Curriculum

YCIS HK decided to transition from IGCSE IT to IGCSE Computer Science in the 2018-19 academic year. To make this happen, they reached out to BSD to assist with the transition, curriculum, and teacher training. BSD helped design a ~60-hour Coding Elective Course for the Year, 9 students, as a foundation to the Year 10 Computer Science course, generate interest and create a pipeline/pathway of students for Year 10. In 2018-19, 125 students signed up for the coding elective and from this 44 students signed up for the Y10 Comp Sci program (the schools target was 25 students). In the successive year, 120+ students have signed up for the program in Y9 and over 40 students have signed up in Y10.

 SOLUTION

BSD provided a 60 hour custom curriculum pathway, 20 hour of teacher training and round the clock coaching and support. Has enabled 3 teachers to gain the skills and confidence to teach a cutting edge coding and computer science elective.

 RESULTS

In the successive year, 120+ students have signed up for the program in Y9 and over 40 students have signed up in Y10. Showcasing that the Y9 program developed by BSD has generated a strong interest in the Y10 Computer Science course and students get a clear understanding of coding and computer science in Y9.
